CRUISEONE ANNOUNCES “TOP 5 ONBOARD SPA INNOVATIONS” OF 2009

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – September 3, 2009 – What better way to unwind amidst one of the toughest years in our nation’s history than with a relaxing spa treatment? A report issued by Reuters this summer indicated that spas are seemingly “recession-proof,” finding record numbers of Americans who continue purchasing spa services to deal with stress from the global financial crisis. According to that report, there were more than 160 million visits to U.S. spas over the last year, up nearly 16% over the previous year. Many cruise lines have seized the opportunity to capitalize on this trend, launching new treatment menus, refurbishing their spas and announcing innovative new spa-related promotions.

With more than 500 Franchise Owners and Agents booking cruises nationwide, CruiseOne has their finger on the pulse of consumer travel trends. Today, the company named its selections for the “Top 5 Onboard Spa Innovations of 2009.” Making the Top 5 are:

  • Lotus Spa, Princess Cruises – “Most Extensive Fitness Program” – Lotus Spa onboard Princess ships offers travelers an exclusive fitness program focused on three vital components of balanced health called Core.Balance.Strength. Each component has corresponding classes. The Core component is designed to create a strong foundation on which to build, and is based primarily of the principles of Pilates and correct postural alignment. Balance focuses on centering both mind and body, and features fusion yoga classes. Strength includes a high-energy mixture of both strength and cardio classes designed to get the heart racing and the endorphins flowing.

Now, as part of its comprehensive fitness program at sea, Princess is inviting passengers to enjoy the unique opportunity to virtually participate in one of the world’s most anticipated sporting events, the Tour de France. Through a partnership with LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, cruisers can enjoy the new Tour de Spin program at Lotus Spa. Riders complete three stages of a stationary cycling program - Les Alps, featuring multi-level resistance; Time Trial, a fast interval workout; and Alp D’Huez, a mind/body climb – and in exchange, receive one of the foundation’s famous yellow wristbands. All proceeds from the Tour de Spin program benefit LIVESTRONG.

  • The Spa at Silversea – “Best New Luxury Spa Concept” – Silversea Cruises has launched a new “Ultra-Luxury” spa concept throughout its entire fleet. Its new brand, The Spa at Silversea, features a variety of innovative treatments and rituals designed to offer a personalized experience focused on the guest's individual needs. Each The Spa facility includes contemporary décor, Elemis aromatherapy products with essential oils and plant extracts, dry and steam saunas, a beauty and hair salon, and a fitness center and aerobics studio equipped with circuit weights, state-of-the-art treadmills, cardiovascular training equipment, stair climbers, rowing machines, stationary bicycles, fit balls, step blocks and yoga mats.

  • In conjunction with its new spa concept, Silversea is now offering a variety of unique treatments and fitness programs. For example, travelers can now participate in a cutting-edge body age assessment that tests body fat, cardiovascular health, strength and flexibility against the guest’s actual chronological age. Based on the results, The Spa's personal trainers will design an accurate lifestyle program for the guest once they return home. With spa industry research indicating steady growth in the appeal of spa therapies for men, The Spa has incorporated specialty grooming services, including facials and barbering services. Additionally, couples can now enjoy a romantic ceremony just for them – either in The Spa or in-suite – which includes a soothing bath ritual.

  • Costa Luminosa – “Most Unique Spa Cabins” – The Samsara Spa onboard Costa Luminosa, one of the newest ships in the cruise line’s fleet, spans two decks and offers ocean views from the 23,000 square-foot facility. Even more impressive is the line’s innovative spa cabins.

Costa was the first cruise line to introduce the spa cabin concept with the Costa Concordia in 2006. Today, those who want to immerse themselves in the Samsara Spa experience can book an exclusive spa cabin or spa suite. With direct access to the spa via a private elevator and stairs, these accommodations feature flat-screen TVs, Elemis bath accessories and a “Welcome Ritual,” all included in the cruise price. The “Welcome Ritual” includes unlimited access to the spa and its amenities, two complimentary fitness or meditation classes, a personalized wellness consultation with a spa expert, two treatments, two sessions in the solarium and an invitation to a special spa tea ceremony. Other extravagant amenities in Samsara Spa cabins and suites are special shower filters, luxurious bathrobes for use during the cruise, a specifically designed organic cotton towel and slipper set, a pillow menu for customized comfort, organic cotton bed linens, an ionizer (suites only), a selection of tea, and mini-bar and room service with “light” offerings. These cabins are available on other Costa ships, as well.

  • Seabourn’s The Spa Villas – “Best Full-Day Spa Experience” – Seabourn Odyssey's Spa at Seabourn is the largest on any luxury cruising vessel at more than11,400 square feet on two decks…all for the enjoyment of only 450 passengers. Now imagine a day of enjoying the spa’s incredible treatments and amenities, all from the privacy of an ultra-exclusive Spa Villa. The Spa aboard Odyssey offers two private, canopied Spa Villas on Deck 10. Couples and small groups can reserve a villa for the day, where they will revel in exclusive VIP treatment. Each Villa features a soaking tub, private treatment table, double-sized sun bed, plush lounging and dining furniture, and a private sun terrace. Treatments available in The Spa Villas include a wide variety of European and Asian techniques such as Thai massage, which is unique at sea.

  • Guests looking for a workout prior to their day of villa relaxation can do so in The Spa’s state-of-the-art gymnasium with top-flight equipment and amenities, from rowers and treadmills to free weights. A Fitness Studio offers an incredible new Kinesis Wall for full-body workouts on a sophisticated cable-and-pulley system. This is the latest offering in shore-side gyms and also an unusual finding at sea. The perfect pre-dinner end to a day in Odyssey’s Spa Villas is a wellness or beauty treatment, available for both men and women, in The Spa’s luxurious Salon. There, cruisers will find a special nail bar and the only staff at sea trained and permitted to administer the Skinceuticals line of serums and skin treatments.

  • Carnival Splendor’s Cloud 9 Spa – “Best New Contemporary Spa Concept” – Spanning the forward portion of two full decks with large picture windows offering panoramic views of the sea, Carnival Splendor’s new Cloud 9 Spa offers a variety of innovations, including nearly 70 exclusive spa staterooms and suites – a first for the line – accessible via private elevator.
  • Cloud 9 Spa boasts 17 private treatment rooms, two VIP couples treatment rooms, a beauty salon with complete hair/nail services, a separate men’s grooming area and a relaxing Asian-inspired post-treatment area. A full gymnasium features expansive workout areas and the latest Lifecycle equipment, with treadmills, weight training equipment, stair climbers and rowing machines. Highlights of Cloud 9 Spa’s treatment menu are soothing, exotic Asian, Middle Eastern and European massages, teeth whitening services and heavenly mani/pedi combinations. One unique addition to Cloud 9 Spa is an impressive Thalassotherapy Pool, which is covered by a glass dome and features heated ionized water and pulsating water jets. Adjacent to the Thalassotherapy pool is an elaborate Thermal Suite comprised of four climate-controlled rooms with varying degrees of warmth and coolness.
